ECCOS or European Cultural Capital On Screen aims bridge the cultural gap between the Low countries and one of the European Capitals of Culture.

By bringing films and their film makers on screen and stage during the acclaimed OPEN DOEK FILM FESTIVAL it encourages cultural diversity.
Next to public festival screenings, ECCOS consists of a master-class and a workshop for film professionals.




For ECCOS11, this edition has become ECCOSbis, where we welcome the renowned Dutch filmmaker Leonard Retel Helmrich. The creator of the magnificent trilogy The eye of the day (2002), Shape of the moon (2004) and Position among the stars (2010) will introduce professional filmmakers in the Single Shot Cinema film technique and will reveal his ideas about his triptych and about storytelling documentaries from developing countries.

ECCOS10 has focused in April 2010 on Hungarian film due to PECS as one of the European Capitals of Culture. ECCOS10 had the honour to present Péter Forgács as guestspeaker at the master-class and workshop.

ECCOS09 had the honour to present many outstanding Lithuanian films and documentaries due to VILNIUS as one of the European Capitals of Culture.
