A journey beyond inner and geographic borders.

A documentary by Tülin Özdemir
Production: Stenola, Associate Directors
Production year: 2013

Synopsis

« Who am I? »

Living in Brussels, director Tülin Özdemir of Turkish origins meets an Armanian musician and decides to confront herself with her own heritage and the history between both countries.

Voyage to Ararat is a journey between reverie and reality, where we cross both inner and geographic boarders. Tülin Özdemir lets us travel by train through Europe and Turkey, to the closed border between Turkey and Armenia… As the train advances, we pass the names of cities. The landscapes and the light changes, the languages multiply. Encounters in the train or during stops are the stepping-stones. We observe faces, study women’s expressions and use these as mirrors, to muse over her own identity. The train’s window is like a screen where Europe flashes by in a search of it’s own existence.
