Life to come (Pril Leven)

a creative feature length documentary (2016) by Claudio Capanna

Synopsis

Life to Come / La vie à venir tells the story of a baby’s “very preterm” birth and hospitalization in a neonatal unit. Through the newborn’s daily life, we discover those who struggle by his side: the parents torn between happiness and concern and the medical staff who has to deal with crucial ethical choices. Fighting for his life, the premature baby who can weigh as little as 600 grams at birth, sometimes takes refuge in a mental world created by the memory of his mother’s womb. Week after week, the preterm baby gets stronger thanks to the combination of modern day medicine and the human warmth of those around him. This film portrays this relentless struggle to ensure the baby’s survival.
